Types Of Bets

There are many different types of bets that a bookmaker may let you place. We have created this page to list the main bet types and a brief description of each. These terms are common with Horse Racing & Sports Betting.

Bet Types

Win

A bet that gets a return if the selection comes first in the event or the team wins.

Place

A bet that gets a return if the selection comes first or within a certain number of places (eg. placing 2nd or 3rd)

Each-Way

A combination bet of both win & place, with equal stake.

Single

A bet on one selection or result.

Straight Bet

A straight bet is a single wager placed for a team to win the game or the game to be over/under a certain amount. These are one of the most common types of sports bets.

Money Line Bet

A money line bet is a wager placed for a team to win the game.

Point Spread Bet

A point spread bet is a wager placed for a team to win the game by a certain amount of goals/points.

Totals

Betting on totals is also known as Over/Under. It involved placing a wager for a particular game to be over or under a certain amount of goals or points. It doesn’t matter which team scores with a total bet, in order the total amount of goals in the game must be over the specified line.

Goalscorer

Different bookmakers will offer different betting markets for each sport. In general, this type of bet is one placed on a particular player to score a goal in the match. It could be ‘First Goalscorer’ or ‘Anytime Goalscorer’ and the odds vary based on the players history & skill.

Corners

A popular betting market for soccer fans is ‘Corners’. This is a wager that requires the number of corners to be over/under a certain amount. E.g. Over 14 corners would require a total of 15 corners in the game.

Half-Time/Full-Time

A wager that aims to predict the first half winner and the second half winner. The odds for this type of bet are generally longer as its harder to predict than a single bet that’s just for the win.

Multiple Bets

Double

A bet that has two or more selections. Both selections must win to get a return.

Treble

A bet that has three or more selections. All selections must win to get a return.

Accumulator

A bet that has four or more selections. All selections must win to get a return.

Full Cover Bets:

Trixie

A bet that has three selections, that is made up of four individual bets. Three doubles & a treble. Two selections must hit to get a win.

Yankie

A bet that has four selections, that is made up of 11 individual bets. Six doubles, four trebles and a fourfold multi bet. Two selections must hit to get a win.

Super Yankie

A type of bet that has five selections, that is made up of 26 individual bets. 10 doubles, 10 trebles, five fourfold and a five fold multi bet. Two selections must hit to get a win.

Heinz

A bet that has six selections, that is made up of 57 separate bets. 15 doubles, 20 trebles, 15 four folds, 6 five folds and a six leg multi bet. Two selections must hit to get a win.

Super Heinz

A bet that has seven selections, that is made up of 120 separate bets. 21 doubles, 35 trebles, 35 four folds, 21 five folds, 7 six folds & a seven fold multi bet. Two selections must hit to get a win.

Goliath

A bet that has eight selections, that is made up of 247 seperate bets. 28 doubles, 56 trebles, 70 four folds, 56 five folds, 28 six folds, 8 seven folds, and an eight fold multi bet. Two selections must hit to get a win.

Full Cover Bets (with Singles)

Patent

A bet that has three selections, that is made up of 7 separate bets. Three singles, three doubles & a treble. One bet needs to win to get a return.

Lucky 15

A wager that has four selections, that is made up of 15 separate bets. Four singles, six doubles, 4 trebles and a fourfold multi. One bet needs to win to get a return

Lucky 31

A wager that has five selections, that is made up of 31 separate bets. Five singles, 10 doubles, 10 trebles, five four folds, and a five fold multi. One selection needs to win to get a return.

Lucky 63

A wager that has six selections, that is made up of 63 separate bets. Six singles, 15 doubles, 20 trebles, 15 four folds, six five folds and a sixfold multi.One selection needs to win to get a return.

Straight Forecast

A wager that has two selections, finishing in 1st and 2nd in correct order for an event. Also known as ‘Exacta’

Reversed Forecast

A wager requring picking two selections to finish 1st and 2nd in any order for an event. Also known as ‘Boxed Exacta’

Combination Forecast

A wager on three or more selections to be chosen to finish 1st and 2nd in the right order for an event.

Tricast

A wager that requires choosing three selections, to finish 1st, 2nd & 3rd in the right order in an event. Also known as ‘Trifecta

Combination Tricast

A wager that requires three or more selections to be picked, to finish in 1st 2nd and 3rd, in the correct order for an event. Also known as ‘Boxed Trifecta’
